OUR IDEA
TUNE is a non-profit Music and Sound environment catering to professional and developing musicians, audio engineers, and producers.
Our Idea is
to prepare and present their music works with emphasis on developing and exposing Canadian and International music and sound artists.
We are a charitable non-profit society operated by professional artists, technicians and administrators.
TUNE consists of 3 major components:
- TUNE Music and Sound Society Production facility and artist environment.
- TUNE Music and Sound Society Live programme.
- TUNE Music and Sound Society Culture Magazine & Archive.

TUNEexists to enrich communities by presenting a space for musicians to perform, produce and record music, sound, and audio focused art.
Our experience and relationships with the local, national, and even international music community is vast, rich and long lasting.
A considerably strong infrastructure of support has helped the continuance of TUNE’s artistic ventures.
Every year, TUNE carefully selects a defined number of projects for that year’s production calendar. An assortment of music genres and styles are selected for the annual events quota, with priority selection given to projects of the highest caliber of performance, innovation, and artistic merit. Experience is not a pre-requisite. TUNE evaluates artist or group proposals and pairs them with suitable visiting or resident audio engineers. TUNE then hosts the environment to record their works for release, public presentation (installation, concert, or gallery show), or simply for archival purposes.
TUNE is a new space for the community, which creates opportunities for new, and/or experienced artists. The experience and expertise from these artists offers invaluable functional insight ,and potential for our members and the artistic community.
TUNE is passionate about live performance and presentation, and therefore has many Partner Performances Venues and spaces available to accommodate a variety of public performances. From larger theatres and concert halls, to smaller and more intimate galleries.
TUNE has the contacts and working relationships to provide a suitable venue for any performer’s needs. TUNE can also host performances within its own establishment.
All projects recorded or produced at TUNE are archived in the TUNE Audio Library, and select pieces are compiled and released together in the form of a compact disc or vinyl record with TUNE’s bi-annual magazine publication: TUNE Music & Culture Magazine.
FACILITY
TUNE is currently located in the urban foothills of the Canadian Rockies ,at the South west corner of downtown Calgary, Alberta. This location is great to focus Arts and Cultural development in the centre of Calgary.
The facility exists within a circa 1939 Art Deco style building with sufficient comfortable space for larger groups and ensembles. The sonic environments contain several spaces capable of providing various acoustic characters. These spaces are tonally dynamic and offer much flexibility in the recording process.

TUNE MUSIC AND SOUND CALGARY WILL HAVE TO CLOSE ITS PUBLIC SPACE DOORS AS OF JUNE 2008 DUE TO THE DEMOLITION OF ITS CURRENT SPACE .THE LACK OF SUITABLE BUILDINGS POSES A GREAT PROBLEM FOR TUNE, AND OTHER IMPORTANT ARTIST ORGANIZATIONS OF THE AREA . Comfortable and central character space buildings with good acoustics are very difficult to attain and barely available on the Calgary Real estate market. We are looking hard and widely to find the right spot ,with no success so far.We await the community's ideas, input ,and support to find the right place to make this all happen .!
We appreciate it Largely. Thank you.

TUNE has a very well-equipped recording studio, with several state of the art recording and production systems, with Classic analogue tape recording methods as our pride and favorite. TUNE also possess a large collection of sought after microphones, preamplifiers, analogue processors, and devices.
Our instrument collection is rich with keyboards and esoteric synthesizers, but also houses some other standard "house"implements such as guitars, drums, and a fair assortment of amplifiers.
TUNE’s in-house engineer/technician maintains all of the equipment in the facility.
MEMBERSHIP
Any individual from the community is welcome to become a member of TUNE Music & Sound Society. There is an annual fee, due upon registration, which includes: The cost of the membership, priority placement and discounts for workshops, copies of the bi-annual publication, access to the TUNE Library, access to TUNE’s online informative mailing lists, Q&A forums, and community contacts related to TUNE.
PROGRAMMING
The scheduling of recording sessions are determined by TUNE’s Programming Administrator in conjunction with the Selection Committee.
Our Selection Committee carefully chooses a determined amount of projects per year and designates artists and engineers for each specific project.
Live shows, concerts, gallery presentations, and event programming is planned through TUNE Live Performances and Presentation Events Committee.
WORKSHOPS
TUNE Workshops are available to the community during select calendar dates. These workshops are hosted by a collaboration or individual efforts of artists, professional instructors, and/or or audio engineers. An ongoing schedule of workshops is mandatory within TUNE's annual programming.
There are a variety of workshops offered to our community, and membership, which are well focused, and accessible to all. They range from Basic to highly specific.
Artists, musicians, instructors, and engineers can choose and specialize their curriculum for the workshop, as long as it is informative and educational to our membership and community.
The workshops are revised and approved by the Board of Directors. TUNE requires a specific number of basic “How to” or “101” amateur workshops, to maintain a balanced educational gamut.
RESIDENCY PROGRAM
A period of time in which a Selected Resident Engineer records the music and sounds produced by / musicians and/or artists, and can opt to "workshop" their processes with members.
A musician or sound artist can opt for the same. Our member base can then learn, share, and benefit from resident, or visiting engineers, musicians, and/or sound artists with, techniques, methods, and knowledge. These sessions create a bond and form interesting collaborations between the parties involved.
The TUNE building can comfortably house 1 full time employee (generally, the administrator) and comfortably houses 1 artist resident or group. Accommodations are arranged by TUNE's administration for resident artists , and the facility may be able to host larger groups upon group or artist’s discretion and comfort. Groups may also wish to arrange external accommodation with our Venue partners.
